Mapachos are pure tobacco native to South America and has been used for centureis in shamanic and indigenous rituals, particularly in the Amazon region. 

In traditional shamanic practices, especially among the Shipibo and other indigenous groups, mapachos are used for spiritual cleansing, protection, and connecting with the spirit world. The smoke is believed to purify both the physical and energetic body, as well as ward off negative energies or spirits. It is often blown over people, objects, or into ceremonial spaces as part of the ritual.

Mapachos are also used as as a means of communicating with the plant spirits in traditional medicine and healing practices, such as those involving Ayahuasca or Huachuma.
